JOB DESCRIPTION
The Senior Revenue Accountant performs all functions of the revenue process with limited supervision. The person is responsible for updating monthly worksheets and uploading the information into the Bolo system. This individual will be a hands-on, self-motivated, highly organized and creative professional that can interface effectively with Operations, Production Accounting, Land, and Financial Reporting groups and may function as a trainer for lower-level accountants.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for most activities associated with the recording of revenue, expenses, and volumes associated with the sales of oil, gas, and natural gas liquids, including preparation of monthly revenue allocation worksheets, processing prior period adjustments, validating production data, verification of commodity pricing, determine accuracy of revenue and expenses based upon marketing and gathering and processing contracts, accurate royalty disbursements based upon mineral division of interests and state and federal regulations, and coordinate revenue check mailings.
- Formulate monthly revenue matrices for operated wells using interpretations of complex contractual arrangements.
- Prepares and files accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual regulatory reports to appropriate state and federal taxing authorities, and federal royalties.
- Responsible for responding to state and federal regulatory agencies to resolve audits, inquiries, and disputes. Fulfills data requests, review and recalculation of tax and royalties and production volumes, re-filing of wells involved in federal unit expansions or Communitization agreements, and re-filing reports with regulatory authorities.
- Responsible for the accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close. Prepare accruals, journal entries, reconciliations, and account analysis to identify and resolve accounting issues or errors. Comply with interdepartmental processes to ensure revenue accounting is complying with all Company procedures. Coordinates with other departments in resolving complex revenue accounting matters. Support revenue analysis reports requested by Operations and Management.
- Determine accuracy of royalties received from check stubs received from non-operators based upon mineral division of interests, investigate, and resolve discrepancies.
- Back up to Land group to resolve and correspond with owners regarding revenue checks, transfers, 1099s, DR21Ws, and any other questions; Log and maintain owner inquiry database.
- Support requests from both internal and external auditors. Complete internal and external documentation and testing requests.
- Prepare monthly revenue variance analysis, explain fluctuations in amounts as compared to prior months and estimates. Complete revenue accrual analysis and provide detailed feedback on accrual results.
- Interpret, document, and implement revenue recording process documentation, procedures, and electronic revenue records policies and evaluate and maintain on an ongoing basis.
- As needed or requested, handle other activities and special projects to support well operations, audits, and accounting obligations along with operations and management reports.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- College or university program degree; or 6+ years related experience and/or training in oil and gas revenue accounting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline, preferred.
- Knowledge of Bolo accounting system experience preferred. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook and intermediate to expert level Microsoft Excel.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of revenue accounting. Comprehension, experience, and ability to apply regulatory guidelines and interpretations to royalty and tax filings.
- Highly analytical, and overall ability to thoroughly understand issues and foresee complexities. Experience working in a continuously changing environment.
- Takes ownership, pays attention to detail, and accepts the initiative to take on additional work if necessary.
- Ability to display a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment to effectively manage projects, prioritize deliverables in order to meet deadlines, use time efficiently, and improve efficiencies.
